What is reflexology?

Reflexology is the application of  gentle pressure and massage techniques to reflex points in the foot and occasionally the hands.

It is based on the theory that the body’s energy flows along  channels originating in the head and ending in the feet and hands.

By pressing the feet and linking into these channels which relate to organs and functions in the body, tensions are relieved restoring a free flow of energy.

The benefits of reflexology

Reflexology is a great way of easing blockages that prevent the body from functioning effectively.  It is a gentle, non-invasive (only feet and hands are worked) therapy that:

• reduces stress and fatigue
• eases migraines and headaches
• improves sinus and respiratory problems
• corrects skin problems
• alleviates back pain
• boosts circulation
• balances hormones
• relieves digestive disorders

Increasingly people are using reflexology as a preventative therapy - to relax, restore and revitalise!

What happens in a reflexology treatment?

Typically you will lie back fully clothed.  The reflexologist will apply finger and thumb pressure to the feet (a foot massage).

You may feel discomfort such as a tingling or soreness but this will not last.  This is simply an indication that the body is balancing itself.  The treatment can also be relaxing and soothing.

After a treatment, you may feel tired and lethargic or relaxed and energised depending on what your body needs.

Treatment may last between 30 min - 1hr.  Your reflexologist will recommend a course of reflexology treatment depending on your body’s needs.
