Reiki
What is Reiki?
Reiki is an effective way of reconnecting you to the vital energy source sometimes known as ‘chi’. It is the practice of transmitting energy through the hands in order to stimulate the body’s own natural healing process.
Eastern medicine has always worked with ‘chi’ or energy, namely in acupuncture, reflexology & yoga. Reiki works with this same ‘chi’ or energy to harness vitality and internal wellbeing.
The benefits of Reiki
Reiki can have a profound effect on many levels. It can be used to promote relaxation and release stress and tension or it can balance your emotions, releasing you from old thought patterns and assisting you with change. Reiki is a powerful self development tool which:
· clears blockages (mental or physical)
· brings clarity & well-being
· boosts energy and the immune system
· releases old thought patterns
· reduces stress and anxiety
· overcomes illness, grief or loss
· improves quality of relationships
· promotes individual awareness
· develops a sense of trust or confidence in life
What happens in a Reiki treatment?
A treatment is carried out with the patient lying down or sitting in a comfortable environment. No clothing is removed apart from shoes. The practitioner places their hands in a series of positions on or over the body.
You may feel a gentle flow of energy which feels like deep warmth, tingling sensations, coolness or nothing at all. A treatment can be either relaxing or energising depending on what the body needs most.
The energy continues to work after the end of a treatment so if you feel tired it will be time to rest. Reiki will teach you to respond to your body’s needs.
Is Reiki safe?
Reiki is a complementary therapy which works effectively alongside orthodox healthcare. It does not have any undesirable side effects and you cannot overdose on too much energy.
One of the fastest growing therapies in the West, Reiki is being used in doctor’s surgeries, cancer support groups, post-operative recovery, drug rehabilitation centres, prisons, HIV/AIDS centres and elderly care.
How do I train to become a Reiki Practitioner?
The Reiki system generally consists of three degrees or levels depending on the school. Each level takes you further into yourself with greater opportunities for positive change and personal growth.
Completion of all three levels is necessary to become a fully qualified Reiki Practitioner enabling you to treat others.
